I love that this picture shows two Peters family pups, Ellie (left) and Roxi (right) nestled together with their contrasting coats! They used to be great friends before Roxi sadly passed away in 2019. I don’t want to minimize my love for Ellie (to read more about Ellie, please visit her other page) but want to honor Roxi with some memories below.

Roxi was my very first dog, and she and I had a truly special bond! My family rescued Roxi in 2008 after she had been mistreated and abandoned. Roxi and I were inseparable; we went jogging in the Benicia hills together, played dog soccer, wrestled on the trampoline, and she slept most nights cuddled on my feet. We already had a couple of cats at the time we adopted Roxi, but she was immediately great with them, especially with Simba. After we adopted Remy, he and Roxi became instant best friends too! The two would cuddle, wrestle, play chase, and when we were out on walks, Remy would jump up and kiss Roxi on the ear every so often; he truly loved her! Because of her abuse trauma, Roxi was afraid of many things (such as balloons and loud noises) and was extremely shy. We attempted to socialize her at the dog park a few times, but she always ended up hiding scared in the corner, so we respected her neuroticism and only walked her with Remy. When my parents moved to Paso Robles, Roxi actually connected with Ellie right away, and the two quickly grew into besties! Roxi got to live out the last years on her life running around a giant farm property playing with her “cousin” Ellie. Roxi was a one-of-a-kind dog, and her memory will be in my heart forever.
